Appearance: By all appearances, Apollo is a petite, almost effeminate, young man with long, flowing crimson hair held back from his face with intricate wreaths and golden-amber eyes framed with long bangs. His short celadon robes are loose and flowing, yet often leave his arms and legs in clear view - and those are decorated with intricate armbands and vambraces or sandals that lace up to just below his knees.

Of all the gods, Apollo has the most animate visage - his annoyance, arrogance, curiosity, irritation, amusement, mirth, and uncertainty are all there, clear and obvious in his expressions. Gods cannot lie, not even in their expressions, and so what he’s thinking or feeling is often reflected openly in his eyes, or the set of his mouth or shoulders - though more often than not his lips are curled into a confident smirk and his shoulders upright. He is a proud, arrogant, and fickle god - and everything about his mannerisms shows that he’s well aware of this fact.

Background: Of all the myths of gods... for the gods themselves, there are simply truths that they know. One set of these truths that they know is that the vast majority of the ‘gods’ humans worship do not even exist. There is no god of rainbows or wars, no gods that govern human interaction or exist to protect season, rivers, or streams. In fact, there are only five gods that came into being, the strongest being the three brother gods that divided the world by drawing lots: the eldest, Hades, drew the earth and was thus was driven below, the middle brother, Poseidon, drew the oceans and was driven into the seas, and Zeus, the youngest and most powerful drew the heavens last. He took to the skies and became the King of the Gods, looking down over the world from above. Some say that Zeus rigged the lottery to trap his brothers, but most interesting is the fact that not even the other gods know if this is a ‘truth’ or not.

After them, the twin beings Apollo and Artemis came into existence - he the Sun god and she his beautiful older sister, the Goddess of the Moon. When Apollo came into existence, he doesn’t know - what he does know is that the moment he became aware, it was with his older sister Artemis at his side beneath a great tree. To her, he gave all of his devotion and love, as he saw her as the only thing of value in the world. And so it was with her that he was content to remain... in the beginning.

It was only when he began stepping away from their little sanctuary that the idiosyncrasies of the world began to draw his eye.

Humanity, however, he considered worthless and dull. When they built a temple to him, he asked Poseidon why they were doing so, and when the other complained that Apollo’s temple was going to be bigger than his own, Apollo responded by flicking over the large stone they were rolling up to the temple and, quite uncaringly, crushed several of the people, stating they should have run like ants. Poseidon said he should have just crushed ants if that’s what he wanted and Apollo replied that he would rather crush humans. Poseidon, speaking as if he were Apollo to the humans, then encouraged the builders to give Apollo a sacrifice.

Poseidon’s constant presence was something of an annoyance for Apollo, and his constant plots to overthrow Zeus, the humans and their foolish prayers and temples, the arrogance and vanity of raising civilizations - they all gave him things to question, at first. This lead him to discover another truth. By trying to state, out loud, that Poseidon could not beat him, he learned that he is, in fact, more powerful than Poseidon. He tried the same tact with Hades and Zeus, but was unable to make those statements out loud.

Later, it was the arrogance of Prince Ganymede’s family, both for claiming that Ganymede was so beautiful that there was no way the gods wouldn’t notice him and inadvertently implying Ganymede was too good to be given to the gods as a sacrifice that had Apollo choosing to take him to Zeus’ miniature garden as ‘bait’ for the King of gods, as Ganymede embodied all of the traits Zeus approved of in order for Zeus to see ‘Just how far does the foolishness of humanity extend?’

Upon stealing Ganymede, Apollo forced Ganymede to watch as he killed the boy’s brother before him, saying ‘Wrath... is a great way to pass the time’ before taking him to his garden. He imprisoned Ganymede in a beautiful ruins beneath a sky full of unmoving stars, all glittering like diamonds, amidst a field of pure white flowers, cut in full bloom yet never withering, and granted the prince immortality - then spent the next age taunting and teasing Ganymede in his stubborn insistence to look for a way out, to get him to look back so that he had to start his search all over again.

One to rule the sky and the heavens, one to rule the earth and all things that rot and die, and three to govern the areas in between.

And of these five gods, Apollo is the most inquisitive of the world itself and the most fickle. He cares not for the humans that inhabit the earth and even goes so far as to say that the gods prefer to watch them scurry around like insects...yet he disappears from the others occasionally to watch them (one time it was for 17,450 days by Poseidon’s count) and in some abstracts ways, try to understand them. People’s will, their strength of conviction, the passions that lead them to say or attempt things that are clearly beyond their capabilities to do - these are the things that fascinate and bewilder him, because gods cannot lie. They cannot utter something that isn’t a truth like humans can.

Between listening to Ganymede’s insults and claims, his stubborn determination to find a way out (at first) and constant attempts to take his own life as a means of escape, as well as the constant chatter of the human sacrifice, named Iris, left to him in the temple the human’s erected for their worship of him, Apollo began to see humans as beings rather than simple insects - so much so that Hades stepped in to warn Apollo that he was treading on his domain, and that he might regret the knowledge learned in the process.

It was because of Hades thought-provoking and puzzling words, followed by the murder of the human that he’d come to almost befriend, his ‘sacrifice’ that took care of his temple Apollo finally saw and understood the ‘truth’ of what it means when things ‘rot’, as well as the ‘truth’ of Artemis herself - that she was little more than a personified representation of the moon. Hades had warned him that their world consisted of the heavens and the earth and that while all beings were drawn to the surface of the world, Apollo himself was drawn there more than most, but in allowing himself to be, his perceptions and the truth therein would change. It was after this that he began to realize Artemis was little more than the reflection of his own thoughts and feelings, never offered her own opinions or thoughts on any given subject, never left the tree that was their own private sanctuary. He began to feel as if, despite the surface of their interactions staying the same, that something was beginning to feel out of place, and began to realize that what had changed, was him.

Hades words and his own realizations revealed the truth that Artemis was a ‘mirror that reflected his heart’ and so when his heart wasn’t before her, she reflected nothing at all.He tried to deny that truth out loud and found that he could not speak the words. In other words, this was their undeniable truth. Hades forced him to take into consideration the symbology of their roles in the world in order to better see his own truth, created a sense of loss like an unfillable hole opening within him. It’s because of this that he spent less and less time with Artemis and more in the garden with Ganymede.

He watched as Hades, then Zeus, took a more active interest in Ganymede, watched as Hades tempted the human towards death and watched as Zeus descended from the skies more and more to see the human... and slowly, understanding and a grudging respect and bond grew between him and Ganymede - so much so that when Ganymede became aware of the ‘truth’ of how he could escape, he chose to continue on living in that garden so that he can be with Apollo to see how it all ends, claiming ‘Just imagining you looking all lonely without me is just too pathetic to bear.’

Previous Game History: n/a!

Personality: By his own admission, Apollo is a fickle god. More often than not, he will set up a situation for no other reason to observe the actions and reactions of the humans it affects. If something brings up a new question, or a possibility that he has not thought of as of yet, he will question it to, turn over the problem in his mind or question it aloud, then finally simply attempt to state it one way or another to determine if it is a truth that he can speak. In this sense, Apollo can be almost child-like in his attempt to figure out a ‘truth’.

Outside of that, he is an absolute mass of contradiction. With one that he had a true sense of care and affection, like Artemis, he shows an infinite wealth of love, tenderness, and affection and yet with others like humans (or even Poseidon) they get the opposite - complete indifference. He couldn’t care less what their plight may be, regardless of the circumstances surrounding them. Catch his interest, however, and he will bend most of his attention to whatever that may be. Ganymede and Iris both do this, yet where Ganymede’s spark and fire evoke a more tumultuous interaction built largely on thinly veiled (if veiled at all) cruelty, taunts, sarcasm, and a clever back and forth rapport between them from the very start... Iris starts out with supreme disinterest at very best.

It was only through her constant chatter that he began to see her not as an insect, but as a being in her own right. It was through everyday chatter that he began to grab hold of a clearer understanding of man and the contradictions inherent in humanity. This closer understanding with humans, even an immortal one such as Ganymede, has altered his perception of the world, opened him enough to build a less antagonistic bond with the boy himself.

Even so, he’s still a brat. He can be rude, dismissive, inconsiderate, selfish, smug, demanding, antagonistic, cruel, kind, inquisitive, curious and temperamental at any given moment - but always, always it is with a truthful sincerity that he does not deny.

Skills and Powers: Apollo is, quite literally, a god. Therefore there are quite a few abilities that will either need a permissions post for or will be limited for game purposes. An important note is the fact that he absolutely cannot utter a lie. This is how he will often test a question for the truth - if he can state something, it is the truth. If he cannot utter it, it is not a truth. He can state that Poseidon cannot beat him, and thus he knows he’s stronger than Poseidon, however he cannot say the same with either Hades or Zeus and therefore knows that they are both stronger than he is.

While he does have the ability to grant immortality, that will be limited for gameplay. He may attempt to grant it, however once the receiving character doubts or looses the will be be immortal, they'll lose it. He has a cap of granting two characters with this at any given time, excluding if/when the game gets a Ganymede.

Invisibility and Teleportation - He can move about unseen by mortals if he chooses, and will either simply appear/disappear in an instant if he wishes or appears to form from wisps of smoke and flower petals before them for effect when he does decide to become visible. **This will only be used with player permission and will be included in a permissions post.Teleportation only works within the city and cannot reach the tower where the Princess and the Weavers reside.

Levitation - he’s often seen hovering, standing, or sitting on little more than air just out of Ganymede’s reach, or floating slowly down to appear before a human.

Mind reading - It doesn’t matter location or distance, Apollo can ‘hear’ the thoughts and prayers of any human if he so chooses. **This will only be used with player permission and will be included in a permissions post.

Strength - His strength isn’t based on physical appearance at all. Despite his rather diminutive size, he can move boulders that weigh several tons with the flick of a finger without straining himself in the slightest.

Lightning attacks - he can summon a blinding light that can burn away whatever target he chooses, not even leaving ash in their wake. **This will only be used with player permission and will be included in a permissions post.

Items: The clothes and jewelry on his person and that be it. The mirror that he will
have looks like this:

Action: [Video]

[The image that flickers across the mirror is one of a seemingly young man, his long crimson locks caught up and back by an intricate weave of flowers and delicately wrought gold. There’s a thoughtful, slightly pensive look on his face, his golden eyes heavy lidded as he focuses on the corner of the mirror, rather than look at it directly.

He lifts a hand and rests a fingertip against his lip, taps it absently, then glances up to meet the gaze of his reflection head on. For a moment, he can see Artemis there before him instead of his own reflection and that alone makes it easier for him to draw a soft breath before speaking up.]

Even if those things aren’t lying as humans are wont to do, this really is an inescapable world of dreams. I can say that: We, all of us, are trapped in this city. This is an inescapable truth... so what I want to know is this...

How is it that they can hold god here and yet there is no Sun? Neither sun nor moon light this clouded sky and yet I am here so... what manner of being can imprison a god?

Third Person Prose:

Now that the dubious excitement of arrival was over and the humans neatly ensconced in their rooms, be they here or at the hospital, Apollo could finally settle down with his own thoughts - a much easier task when he didn’t have to block out or ignore the various thoughts of the humans that now surrounded him.

In all the ages, this was the first time he’d been forced to remain near so many of the insects and it was something of a mild surprise to realize that with proximity, their voices and thoughts were simply louder. A veritable cacophony of clashing thought processes, fears, worries, and frustrations. It was gross, having them constantly clamoring for attention as they were. Gross and annoying.

Now, however, he simply stretched and leaned back, hands resting on nothing and legs crossed as he sat on the air well above the Inn and gazed up into the moonless sky.

He had wondered once, after one of many confusing conversations with Hades, just why the gods had come into being. To what purpose had they been given such symbolic visages? Why was he the Sun and Artemis the moon?

He’d never found the answer to those questions and now, in such an insubstantial and inconsistent place as this, he found himself asking them once again - but with a new dimension.

Because now, he had to wonder just what was his purpose of being, if he was a Sun God in a world devoid of a sun or moon to begin with? He had no real answer to that, and after a long moment’s consideration, he decided he didn’t really care as to the intent or purpose of bringing him there because eventually... he’d have the truth of this place and that was when the real fun would begin.

For now, he just needed to find something to entertain him until he figured it out - an easier task by his estimation, given the high percentage of abnormal humans that had arrived at the same time as he.

Just the thought of it was enough to pull his lips up into a cruel little smirk because Apollo?

Already had a few choice victims in mind.

Any questions and concerns go here: None! But here, have some relevant quotes!

“Even if there is a time when the words of god turn out to be false it is only because you did not believe. Whether you’re asleep or awake, whether it’s the real world or a dream, doubt is not the punishment bestowed by uncertainty. It is the complacency you show in trying to escape by passing off your unease of your own uncertainty onto other uncertainties!”

“The gods know the One Truth. But we don’t know the countless misunderstandings and lies it gives birth to. Not only do we not know them, we aren’t even aware that they exist. And... the existence of the fact that we are not aware of their existence is something that I was not aware of, until now.”

“Do you really not have to eat?” “We’re not finite existences like you humans. Would you mind not comparing me to you puny mortals who have to ingest foreign objects in order to survive?”

“ ‘delicious’, ‘I like it’, ‘I don’t like it’ are all things I cannot say, but I can say ‘I don’t know’.”

My sister did not change. It’s just that during my talks with my sister, never before had I been preoccupied with something else. I’m the one who changed. Are you saying that this... is what it means to ‘rot’?”

To me, there existed nothing in this world that was more important than Artemis. That is the truth. However, even when I am told that she is my mirror, I cannot deny it. In other words, this is an undeniable truth. But what does that mean?

The gods... couldn’t care less about humans. We actually prefer to see them scurry about, desperate and greedy, like the bugs they are. I can say that out loud. In other words... that is the truth.
